All the quote you have chosen are excellent. Yet I think I'll give my vote to the one by Gandhi. It seems most apt these days.

Thanks. My personal favourite is Bertrand Russells, it will always be true and relevant, and has his trademark touch of sarcasm and humour that makes his quotes so memorable.

Exactly, so the next time George Bush wants to start a war, he should simply challenge the leader of said country to a slapping contest.

"Only the dead have seen the end of war."

Quite right and a great quote. I was considering putting that one in, but as I believe peace is possible and the only way forward, I thought that one may be a bit detrimental to my cause as it suggests the only escape from a war filled world is death. So instead I went with the well known philosphical genius of the Bush family and 'War is not nice'!

Oh I know one, 'The god of war hates those who hesitate'.

So do the traffic lights near the tram stops...

The beginning of the civilisation is also the beginning of the war. and it has never ended, yet. And I can see no lights at the end of the tunnel. pessimistic, or cynic if you say, but I think that is the ultimate truth about war, it never ends.

Ahmed,

I agree with you about the god of war, Bruce Lee said "Deliberation is the martial artists greatest enemy"

Utku,

I dont think you're being pessimistic as its a pretty accurate observation but at the same time I think that we are now evolved enough that our animal instincts such as fighting and territoriality can be overridden by our intelligence and our ability to communicate effectively.

Hi Amy,

yes they should make them fight it out themselves. David Icke had a great idea when he said "They should pass a law that states, anybody who declares war has to fight on the front line." That would eliminate any unjustified wars and I have no doubt people would be much less critical of their leaders and more prepared to fight if they could see that their leaders believe in it enough to risk their own lives instead of just their citizens lives.

Thanks for the comment.

True, what happened to the good old days when those who declared wars were part of those wars? When they'd lead their armies here and there...

Ahmed,

I dont know if I'd describe them as good but its certainly preferable to what we have now. I think its much easier to wage war against someone now when we can push buttons from the other side of the world and never see the face of the people we kill. Horrific as it may have been, when we had to fight it out sword to sword on a field war was more realistic, you would see the victims of your actions face to face and have to experience the fear of hundreds of warriors running at you with swords drawn. in this situation I think people are much less likely to fight unless they feel it is absolutely essential.

Thanks for the comment.

But you foget the romans, 'strength and honour to us all', and off they went creating war all over the place... pointlessly most of the time, simply to dominate the planet.

Hi Ahmed,

Thats a good point and one I hadnt thought of. I dont really know much about roman history but I dont expect that Caesar fought on the front line in many battles.
