Fool's Philosophy - by Nate Bartling

This is a collection of personal thoughts, philosophies, and feelings that I come across on the long road to finding out what we are doing here.

Religion on the Edge

March 11th 2008 17:02
Religion is a subject that takes a lot of consideration and contemplation to even try to tackle. There are no right answers and no wrongs, only feelings and stuff that seems to make more sense when you think about it then the stuff we have been told as we grow. As far as my personal views, I was raised Christian in a Baptist home where church ever week wasn't an option, and neither were philosophical questions. I was told God cared about me and my actions affected God and his mood towards you. The following way I feel is purely feeling and in no way is said to be pushed on anyone, but I can say from someone who I feel contemplates a lot more then most that the things that follow should be considered.

I don’t believe that God is there in the way that we think about him; I don’t think that God is a man with a white beard overlooking our doings from the clouds. I believe God is a wonderful concept and the acceptance of religion will not lead you to a bad life by any means. I think if there is a God, (which will always be in question) he is letting us run around in our own chaos like animals. What makes us think that we are better then the animals that we consume during every meal? We build skyscrapers and construct pyramids, but does that do anything? The animals that we see every day have accepted what they are and aren’t fighting wars over who is right considering what happens when we kick it at the end of our lives. The wars fought across the world are mostly religion centered and the funny thing with that is that the people that are fighting the religious wars have skewed their religious texts to believe that the God that they are following wants them to extinguish the others of our cruel planet to makes things right in his eyes. When you break down the different religions and sacred texts you find that there is no place where God wants planes flown into buildings or troops killing everyone with a way to defend themselves in his name. Religion is mostly peace oriented, and if you were raised a Christian like I was you know that God doesn’t tell us to go out and kill others that are different, or don’t agree with us. He wants us to follow him and do what the religious texts say is pleasing to him. If God claims that we are all his children and he loves all of us then why does the inevitable end with half of us in the glories of heaven, and half of us in a lake of fire for all eternity? If you had four children and two of them were good and two of them turned into hateful meth addicts would you push the two meth addicts in front of traffic and hope they spend forever in a burning lake of fire? I don’t think so. Life couldn’t exist without religion. Period. That would mean that at the beginning of the day we would wake and go do whatever the hell pleased us as far as killing enemies and stealing whatever we wanted, that is even assuming that life would get to the point where there were organized things to steal. People don’t what to believe what I believe, that we are alone in this journey. People depend on the fact that when things get hard and overwhelming that they can turn to a god who has a plan for them and their lives with their best interest at mind. If that were so then good things would happen to everyone and bad things would only happen to people that need to get straightened out. That is not how things are. Good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to everyone, and when bad things happen and religion is looking for an answer we are presented with the thought that "God is testing us" or "God is trying to get us back on track", and the thought of prayer has its own pathetic cop-outs, such as " well God has a plan for us all so if you don’t get what you pray for God has a bigger plan". He doesn't. And the concept of faith never ceases to make me chuckle. Any question you ask that has no answer, anything you want proof of that doesn’t exist, any reasoning that you can’t find is always thrown back to "faith". Oh, you have never seen a sign of divine intervention? Well, you need faith! That in its self is a mockery of what the design of man is. People think that if something good happens to you it is a blessing, but if something bad happens to you, you are being tested, or God is trying to get you back on track. Pssh for every question we have there is an excuse that has no answer. Faith is shit. I had it, most people do, but what are you hoping for? That god will see you out of the seven BILLION people on the planet and deem you worthy of this so-called heaven? Well the concept of Satan and heaven is a farce from the beginning. If God designed everything and knew what was going to happen before it happened, you think he would let a fallen angel (Lucifer, (Satan for you morons)), have control of half of everything and be able to ruin Gods design of humanity from the start with Adam and Eve? Doesn’t sound very reasonable. An angel challenges God and God gives him full run of a place called Hell and half the souls that have ever existed if not more? The things we believe we believe because of our parents and because of wars telling us what region needs to believe what. If we were born in India we would most defiantly not believe in the Bible or Christianity. We would believe in Buddha and Enlightenment, not that people need to go out and reach all the non-believers, but when someone walks through the door of the church that doesn’t look like you "God's people" should judge them and give them the cold shoulder because of cockiness and ego. God would not have wanted his church to turn into a boring place that people dread to attend every week because they fear falling asleep in front of the judgmental group that controls the church. The Catholic Church wouldn’t have been able to control the world and the bible for a thousand years without anyone to check if they were tampering with the so-called " sacred text". The things I believe are scary and might offend you but, think about them, and let me deal with the consequences of them. If I am wrong, and the Bible and God are just as we are told to believe then I suppose I will burn in "Hell" with the rest of the "scum".

I think religion is on the out, despite the resurgence in places like the USA.

I agree, I think people are looking for a much more personal up to date experience and the old religions don't appeal as much any more.
